Final project, weekly schedule
1. A reminder. At this point in the course, each of you is expected to do 6.5 hours a week on the project. Each person, 6.5 hours a week. You will use this time for planning, creating, editing, and polishing your work. Most of the work will be done outside the classes.
Here are the project groups and their proposals so far.
2. The practice sessions will be the time for each team to meet with the professor, show their work, consult on ideas, get feedback.
3. Project 2, Oct. 31, Nov. 2. (You completed Project 1 when you selected a topic and formed a team.) This week you will do a deeper and broader development of your project ideas. Download this form, fill it out with the help of your team.
Upload it to Project 2 in ADI.
The last question on the form has to do with what other sites out there cover your topic? What are their strengths, what are their weaknesses? How will you differentiate your work from all the rest in content, design, style, marketing, distribution channels, etc.
4. Project 3, Nov. 7-Nov. 9.
a) Create a navigation diagram of your site. Map out the nodes. Here is one website example, and here are some other navigation maps of websites. A subway map for Madrid is also a good model but more complex than your sites: each station is a node, and each node is accessible from at least two directions; some stations (nodes) have connections in six or more directions.
b) Remember that you should make it easy and fast for a lazy, selfish, and ruthless user to navigate within your website. Your site's nodes may have multiple connections. You can draw it out by hand, snap a picture and upload it to Project 3 in ADI.
5. Project 4. Nov. 14-Nov. 16. each team will give a 5-minute presentation (a kind of dress rehearsal) of their work to date. Five minutes. You will show us your web page and contents you have created. Only what you have done, not ideas about what you will do. You will get instant feedback from the professor and classmates. Each team should plan to consult with the professor if you have doubts about the 5-minute presentation. Make an appointment via jbreiner@unav.es.
6. Project 5. On Nov. 21-23, The team will review its navigation and usability with the professors during the class. Review of text files for accuracy, scannability, design, links. They will also work on the written version of their report, following the outline used in Project 2.
7. Nov. 28 and Nov. 30. Final presentations. Submit the written report on ADI.
